Great Britain (also known as Britain) influenced the return of the French imperialist to Vietnam after World War Two. This is after the humiliation of the French by the German, the British supported the French in Indochina. Also at the end of the World War two, the British still had a vast empire through imperialism and colonialism of other nations,

China and its communist government were the significance presence of the North, who would infiltrate weapons to the Vietminh in the first Indochina war.

France was the imperialist who took indochina as a colonial possession. They would rule the region, stealing its resources for their own benefit until the people would rise against their oppressors to try gain independence.
Japan overthrew the French during World War Two which led to the annexation of Indochina. This led to even more oppression for the people. An unlikely alliance would form between the United States and Vietminh.
The United States would influence the region from the end of World War Two till the end of Second Indochina War. It would be the other half of the aggression of the Cold War and would support the French in the oppression of the Vietnamese. As the Vietnamese oppostion were seen as part of communist aggression.

Indo-chinese communist party was founded by Ho Chin Minh, to reject the oppressor and strived for the Vietnamese independence.
The Soviet Union was formed in 1922 to 1991, with the dominant ideology of Communism. They were the one half of the aggression in the Cold War, which led to them supporting the Vietnamese in the First Indochina War.
The Viet-Minh were formed as militant resistance to the occupation of the foreign occupation of the French. They would rise against them in the First Indochina War.
