In the Preliminary Modern History course, we as teachers, have taken into consideration the skills and knowledge that the students learn to and learn about. For this unit, they comprise of the following:

Focus Questions
On reflection of what the students must learn, as teachers, we have evaluated the important focus questions which arise and are the key features and issues of the "Indochina from 1945-1954" unit. They are:
- The Impact of French imperialism on Indochina
- What was the nature and role of Vietnamese nationalism?
- What was the nature and role of communism in Vietnam?
- The nature and consequences of external intervention roles of both American/ British and the Russian/Chinese .
- What began the first Indochina war?
- The First Indochina war strategies and tactics.
- The battle of Dien Bien Phu.
- What are the reasons for Vietminh victory?
- Geneva Accords and the reasons for this conference.
